    In fact, what is a backorder? Fancy the situation. You place some product on your Internet store and a customer comes there and orders the product. You get quite happy that the product has been ordered and immediately charge the money from the client’s credit card. But then you contact your product supplier and realize that the ordered product is out of stock (for various reasons). This is the situation. You have to contact the client and inform him/her that the delivery of the product has to be delayed or cancelled. How you behave in a situation like this can show your mastery in the home-base business.

    The major problem is the reaction of the customer to the backorder. A great number of clients understand that delays and cancellations sometimes happen due to objective reasons. These clients are pleasant to deal with. But not all the clients are that sympathetic. Some of them can be called “problem customers.” And your skills to avoid a conflict situation with this kind of customers speaks volumes about your trading skills.

When you start your business, you have to, first of all, find a hosting service that will give you the opportunity to open a web-page that can be made an Internet store. If reality, it is very simple and doesn’t require much investment. The problems spring up when you come to the source of products to sell (you have to have a reliable source of products).

    Basically, there are two ways of searching for such suppliers. You can simply type something like “true wholesale supplier” in any search engine and you will find out that there are hundreds of them on the Internet. Or you car find some reliable wholesale suppliers’ database. What is the major difference between these two ways?

    Well, If you find a real manufacturer (or an authorized distributor which is in substance the same for you as the prices are the same) through a search engine, you will be asked to fill in some paperwork. The majority of home businessmen are afraid of this “paperwork” believing it can be a fraud, still, in this case everything is vice versa. If you find a supplier that requires no paperwork, it is definitely a middleman. What is a middleman? Well, it is a company that stands between you and the true wholesale supplier. You get products at much higher prices than the manufacturer sells, so you profit is lower than it could have been.

    This middleman trap is called the “middleman rut”. Just remember one thing: if it sounds easy it doesn’t mean that it is the best solution. In fact, it is not! Don’t be afraid of paperwork for it can lead you to a real wholesale supplier who will sell you products at the lowest price.

    There are a few basic rules you’d better remember:

    1. In order to be a successful seller you have to find a REAL wholesale supplier
    2. You won’t be able to sign up with a REAL wholesale supplier unless you are a LEGAL business

    But how to find true suppliers and avoid middlemen? For instance, you can have a look at our database of wholesale suppliers. There, you will find the manufacturers and their authorized representatives. Nevertheless, you have to make your business legal in order to buy products from them.

    In reality, making a business legal is not that complicated and costly. In the US you have to carry out just a few operations:

    • Contact your state IRS office for a “Sales and Use Tax ID” or “Resale Certificate.” This certificate is required in order to collaborate with a wholesale supplier.
