    Selling on eBay: price guide
       June 15th, 2006

Selling on eBay: price guideeBay guides and ‘how-to’ are abundant (just check our bookstore). A new one – eBay Price Guide – comes from an experienced eBay member: Julia L. Wilkinson has been buying and selling on eBay since 1999. It is not her first eBay book. She is the author of “eBay: Top 100 Simplified Tips & Tricks” (Wiley), “My Life at AOL,” and numerous ebooks including “Making Big Bucks off Catalogs on eBay” and “What Sells on eBay for What.”

    The official press release states:

The eBay Price Guide is filled with exhaustive lists of selling prices for items ranging from rare books and sports memorabilia to computer parts and video games, covering nearly every eBay niche and the most popular subcategories. Introductions to each category offer helpful tips and advice that you’ll find invaluable on their own. And a special version of the DeepAnalysis software on the CD-ROM serves up pricing data from a huge number of eBay auctions so you can better size up the eBay market, predict how various items will sell, and find out where the deals are.

If you’re a seller, The eBay Price Guide will help you gauge an item’s going rate. If you’re a buyer, you’ll be able to see, at a glance, which categories tend to be overpriced, where to find bargains, and how to bid competitively. Whether you’re selling cell phones, a pair of used Levi’s, or a vase from grandma’s attic, you’ll find this book and software kit indispensable in your quest to set or get the right price on eBay.

The companion CD contains a demo version of HammerTap’s DeepAnalysis auction research software, which sorts through licensed data and statistics for all eBay market sectors so sellers can develop strategies for success. The CD also includes The eBay Appetizer, an eBooklet that describes how to get started on eBay, as well as The Seller’s Guide and The Auction Accelerator, with lessons from a seasoned Internet business coach. You’ll also receive 20 percent off your first three months’ subscription to DeepAnalysis.

You can download a free sample chapter – a great advantage that will give you an impression what to expect from your investment: Chapter 1: Antiques

    Selling on eBay: price guide

Summary: I am primarily interested what how eBay sellers can benefit from the book. eBay is a huge market, but it is very competitive in all categories. Research is a must if you want to make money on the auction. You have a choice: to buy this price guide or, for instance, to subscribe to eBay Marketplace Research.

Bank of America’s way to outsource jobs
       June 15th, 2006

Bank of Americas way to outsource jobs Bank of America actively outsources its tech jobs to India. Former tech staff of the company lose the jobs, but in addition to that they have to train their Indian replacement to get their severance pay.

In fact it is a common practice for most companies worldwide – to train a replacement. But an interesting fact about Bank of America situation is that some Indians come to the USA for training and never leave. So, Bank of America hires Indians to work in the USA. How can it be? The Indians work for some Indian tech companies (for Infosys Technologies and Tata Consultancy Services and not for Bank of America) for half the pay of a US worker.

Bank of America says outsourcing saved about 100 million dollars for the past 5 years. It is rumored that the Bank is going to outsource more jobs (call centers to Latin America) with the increase of Latin customers. The company runs a Culture Connection program that is responsible for outsourcing jobs worldwide.

    Job market on the rise
       June 15th, 2006

Reuters has published the information that says US unemployment rate is lowest for the past four months.

The number of U.S. workers claiming an initial week of jobless claims unexpectedly fell by 8,000 last week to the lowest level in nearly four months, a government report showed Thursday.

First-time claims for state unemployment insurance benefits fell to a seasonally adjusted 295,000 for the week ended June 10 from an upwardly revised 303,000 claims in the previous week, the Labor Department said.

Wall Street economists had forecast initial claims would rise to 320,000 from an initially reported 302,000 for the prior week, which contained the Memorial Day holiday.

The initial claims figure was the lowest since the week of Feb. 18, when it reached 289,000. A Labor Department analyst said there were no special factors to account for this week’s decline.

The four-week moving average of claims, which smooths weekly fluctuations to provide a better picture of labor market trends, fell to 315,750 from 328,000 the previous week.

The number of people who continued to file for benefits after receiving an initial week of aid rose by 15,000 to 2.425 million in the week ended June 3, the latest for which that data is available.
Wall Street economists had expected continued claims to decline to 2.41 million from an initially reported 2.415 million the previous week. The Labor Department revised the previous week’s continued claims down to 2.41 million.
