Setting up with Wholesale Suppliers: Useful Tips
       April 14th, 2008

When you are going to a job interview you cannot go unprepared, can you? Why don’t do the same while approaching a wholesale supplier? You need to understand that for a wholesaler working with you (setting up an account etc) means time, paperwork and money. If you don’t look like a credible retailer, you might get turned down immediately.

Charlie Hall, the owner of Charlie’s Woodshop, comments:

I spend a lot of time helping online retailers get going with my product, but they may not go anywhere if they’re not doing the follow-up work.

But, of course, a coin has two sides. It is not only you who has to be reliable in the eyes of the wholesaler, but the wholesaler must be a trustworthy one. Here, at dropshiparea, we do out best to supply you with the most reliable and trusted wholesale suppliers. By using the services provided by us you are not likely to end up with a middleman or get into any kind of financial fraud.

If you create a favorable impression you are not likely to get a point-blank NO. So let’s find out what is a good way to ask a wholesaler for an account:

    First of all be professional

Any wholesale supplier wants to see how are you going to position their products.

    1. Take your time to check the presentation (it includes grammar, your punctuation, capitalization etc.). If you are not sure whether the grammar is correct use any kind of spellchecker.

    Hall continues:

These are little areas that tell me whether or not I want to do business with a retailer. If they’re not doing all the work, they’re last on the list.

    2. Provide the wholesaler with credible info

    • Give them you full name, the name of your business, address and full contact info
    • Bother to include the tax ID. In fact, without this kind of information you are not likely to be given pricing information. A wholesaler needs this info to check if your business is legal and some other procedures.

    Be aware

    1. Come prepared

Before making a contact give a careful study to the companies you are abut to get involved with. While mass mailing is a working way to set up multiple accounts, it cannot ensure the quality of wholesalers. And remember that stuff with multiple email addresses.

Have a look at the web-page of the company, its policy, services etc. In your letters try to avoid asking questions the answers to which can be found on Help pages and in the FAQ.

    2. Realize what to expect from collaboration

Remember one important thing: a wholesale supplier is not your guru. They don’t have time (and even if they do, it is not their responsibility) to answer your questions and teach you how to sell their products.

One more crucial aspect of mixing up with wholesale suppliers:not every supplier is willing to work with eBiz. Some of them are working on larger scales. But some of them are ready to supply you with products. So, once more the problem of choosing the best wholesale suppliers seems to be the vital one for your home-base business.

Branding Strategy: Branding Name & Design of Your Site
       March 19th, 2008

    Do you really need branding?

All of us, online retailers, want the clients to come and spend money with us online. But in order to ensure that you have to make them feel confident that they are dealing with a legitimate seller. As long as they give you their personal information and even the number of the credit cars, they simply need to be sure you won’t cheat on them. If it is obvious that you run your business from home, they might not feel that confident to give you their personal info. So what is the conclusion from all this talk? You need to create a reliable brand you customers will trust and come over and over again.

    What is a Brand?

In fact, a brand is a something that makes you stand out in a crowd of other online retailers.

    • Making a brand you create a kind of expectation in the mind of your client. This expectation includes everything from your customer service to the quality of the products you sell. A brand is much more than a name and a logo, it is you client’s attitude and vision of your company.
    • Moreover, a brand is your reputation. With your brand name come certain other values which are expected from your products: quality, fashion etc. If you brand is a worthy one, clients are likely to buy products from you than from your competitors even if they cost a little more.

    Branding is a non-stop process

    Explains Eileen Parzek (SohoItGoes.com):

Consistently use a brand design throughout all your different marketing material… It gives a sense you’re bigger than you really are.”

Concentrate on your marketing messages and make sure that these messages are traces throughout your entire policy. If you have print material make sure it doesn’t clash with your web-site design and logos.

Another important aspect is your web-page. If it looks professional and finished the clients are more likely to both buy things from you and come to your page again. The thing is that customers associate the quality of the site with the quality of the services provided, fancy that you have poor-quality web-site…Do you really thing that people want to make purchases even though they know that the quality of the customers service is from the bottom of the barrel.

    Never stop evolving

    Parzek continues:

[Branding] is not something you ever stop doing. You have to be conscious of it at all times.

A good brad always reflects the current evolution of the market and shows all the changes.

How to get a freelance job
       August 29th, 2006

I have my own way of searching for freelance projects online. I would not say that it is an original way or that my search always results in getting new projects, but I hope that you will find some tips to add to your own search techniques.

Imagine that you are a freelance PHP developer. And you need new projects. Here is my program:

    1. Search freelance websites. The nice list is available here. Not all freelance websites are equal. Industry leaders: elance, getacoder, guru, freelance work exchange and a few others.

    2. Coder’s forums:

    - devshed.com
    - codingforums.com
    - phparch.com
    - phpfreaks.com
    - daniweb.com
    - sitepoint.com

Webmaster forums also work. Check the forum sections: ‘help wanted’ or similar. You can also post your own adv offering your services if they are in line with the forum guidelines.

    3. DesignCrowd.com – A nice place to search for freelance projects. The owners scan online resources and re-post the projects doing a great job for you. According to their statement they have about 80 resources on the list.

    4. Kebberfegg – a cool tool that does miracles when combined with some news aggregator. You create custom search feeds that scan many online resources for the word combination you need and deliver the results to your PC.

    5. CraigsList.org. To make your search of this marketplace for freelance opportunities easier – read this post and apply the tool.

    6. ComputerJobs.com – one of the main IT job resources. It is not focused on freelance or telecommuting jobs, nevertheless you will find some job openings as well.

    7. Indeed.com/ SimplyHired.com (the latter is reviewed here) – mega job websites that searching job sites, newspapers, associations and company career pages. The best ways to work with this sort of job portals – create custom feeds and add them to your news aggregator.

Summary: You can use the same techniques to search any freelance jobs – for designers, copywriters, search optimizers, data entry, etc. Just make the required modifications according to the nature of projects you need.

Would like to add more techniques or websites to look for a freelance job? You are welcome.
