    Freelance web designer salary calculator
       June 19th, 2006

When you are lucky to spot new potential customers and get some freelance projects: how do you price your work? And if your customer comes from another country? In my case, I am not always certain how much to charge.

The calculator will be helpful to set the price.

Unbiased salary survey by thousands (over 6400) of professionals:

    -    Solo Designer
    -    Creative / Design Director
    -    Art Director
    -    Senior Designer
    -    Designer
    -    Entry-Level Designer
    -    Print Production Artist
    -    Copywriter
    -    Web Designer
    -    Web Developer – Front End / Interface System
    -    Web Producer / Senior Producer / Executive Producer
    -    Content Developer
    -    Marketing or New Business Manager or Director

Select your profession and location and get the idea how much you can charge for your services.

    Make money online with iFreelance
       June 15th, 2006

Make money online with iFreelanceI admit it is hard to keep an eye on all great resources for freelancers and home workers (it is still harder to bid for projects on numerous boards and follow our Winning strategies) popping up every week. But I try.
What is a good freelance website from my point of view?

    - Firstly, it has a list of projects suitable for me to bid for. The list is regularly updated and new projects are added at least on a daily basis.

    - Secondly, user interface and general website functioning. I can easily find the information, scan and filter projects, communicate with the buyers and be sure you will get your pay once the job is done.

That’s it. There are dozens of freelance sites out there that unfortunately most do not meet these two criteria (from my point of view).

iFreelance does. I would not say they have thousands of projects, but what I can see is that they progress fast. The service is new, but I could spot them advertised online in many places. And I like their interface – it makes me stay on their website for longer.

You as a service provider will be charged a fee for completed projects. The buyers will pay you by PayPal, money order or check. In case you have more questions go to the FAQ section and find answers to all your queries.

At iFreelance the competition is cut throat. When I see 82 bidders per project I think there is no much sense to become bidder #83. But we should improve our skills to outstand and keep trying.

If you need more resources with freelance projects check these popular services (aff):

    FreelanceWorkExchange.com

    RentaCoder.com

    eLance.com

Summary: a nice freelance resource. New and developing at a fast pace. If you make some money from freelnace sites, then iFreelance should be on your list.

    Freelance job sites: winning strategies
       June 12th, 2006

Freelance websites are the places where you can search for a job according to your knowledge and skills. I posted a good (but not complete) list of freelance sites here. Browse (or better: search) our blog for reviews of separate freelance markets.

To start your freelance job search, you need to select a few best from your point of view freelance sites, register (as a rule, create a free account) and start browsing the listed projects. You will discover tough competition – there are tens of bids for every project.

How to win projects in this situation? You definitely need to apply some techniques to increase your chances:

Your proposal should be personal. Take your time to modify your proposal template for every bid you place.

Focus on your experience and skills. Show you are an expert in this area. Refer to your past successful experience.

Be clear: what the customer can expect from you, when and at what price. Not every listed project gives you complete info. So, you should contact the buyer and get the details before you quote your services.

Portfolio. You should have specific samples of work done for every project. The buyer is not interested in your general portfolio; he wants to see your experience with the similar tasks he needs to be fulfilled.

Tell about yourself. Provide some information about yourself or your company. Build some trust. Show you are a real person.

Reply asap. If you get any queries from a prospect try to reply as soon as possible. And remember to answer all questions you get in the messages.

Study your competitors. The competition is cut throat for every project. You need to know who you compete with: their experience, prices, location, etc.

Build your reputation. Reputation is of great importance at freelance sites. The better your history and feedback the higher chances to get a new project even if your price is higher than competitor’s. Repeat customers are a great benefit for freelancers as well.
Browse these two popular sites for freelance projects:

    eLance (aff)

    FreelanceWorkExchange (aff)

Summary: yes, freelance sites are great places for freelance job seekers, but you should have your own proved strategy and tactics to succeed. You will compete with freelancers from all over the world who can beat you with lower prices and better expertise. Hopefully, the above steps will increase your chances to get one or more projects.
