How much could seobook.com make with AdSense alone in 2006? It is none of my business, but I could not resist the temptation to make some simple calculations.
Rand has posted another great project findings showing if we can make a good outside guess about traffic the website in question gets.
Seobook.com tops the list of search marketing resources in traffic in this project. Aaron Wall, the author of the most popular e-book on SEO, says he has got 3,000,000 unique visitors to his website in 2006 (January – August).
So, if the website gets the same amount of traffic as it gets on average this year, the website will end with 4,500,000 unique visitors. Sounds very impressive. I think any owner would be happy to run a website with that level of traffic.
One of the most amazing things is that the website is advertising free – no CPC, no CPM networks, no text links sales, nothing. I am aware that Aaron uses this website as a platform to sell his e-book on SEO.
But let’s make some calculations how much the website could generate with CPC affiliate network, say, Google AdSense in 2006. And then if you wish we could continue making calculations adding other affiliate networks and online revenue sources for this content website.
I am not a great Google AdSense optimizer, but my click through rate with this website as an example is 6-7%. Let’s make it 5% (though I am sure Aaron could make it 10%). A click with Google AdSense in search marketing brings $0.20 on average. So, seobook.com could easily collect with Google AdSense in 2006:
Summary: Yes, I am impressed with this number. And it is minimum from Google AdSense. And remember that it could be generated just from one adv channel. CPM, text link sales and other channels could add up nicely.
I am also amazed at Aaron’s decision not to place ads with seobook.com. I am sure he knows how much money he could generate, but there are some reasons that make him not to sell adv through this website: to promote his e-book, to prove his authority status in search marketing, etc.
