    Freelance sites
       May 11th, 2006

Yes, I agree that freelance sites are crowded with high competition and low payout rates. It is the first impression you get once you visit a freelance site. But when you start browsing the site, reading the feedbacks and ratings of the service providers you notice that the lowest bids are rare winners. We see that buyers prefer to pay some extra, but be certain the work is done in time and properly.

No doubt it makes sense to join one-two most popular freelance sites and add them to your mix of resources in your hunt of home based job. In this post I will shortly review a well-known freelance website RentACoder (aff. link).

You should not be misguided by the name of the site. You will find many job listings that do not require you to code. For example, open projects for:

    • Data Entry,
    • Design, Graphics,
    • Photography,
    • Writing,
    • Training,
    • Marketing incl. Search Engine Optimization,
    • etc.

So, how can this freelance website help you with your attempt to provide a sustainable revenue stream from your home based job?

Registration is free. They handle all the money collecting so you can concentrate on what you’re best at…working. By the time you’ve begun work, the buyer’s money has already been placed into an escrow account, freeing you from the problem of getting ’stiffed’. To pay for this service, Rent a Coder charges you a 15% fee on the profit from work completed and questions. So if you don’t find work…they don’t get paid. Clear and no hidden fees.

Once registered start searching the marketplace. When you find a project you’d like to do, you can bid on it.  At the bottom of the list, just enter you bid amount and an optional comment.  If you want to just leave a comment only (for example to ask a question), leave the bid amount blank…

If the buyer selects you do your work properly within the stipulated time frame. Submit your work for the buyer approval.

Approved? Get paid and rated.  Your account will be credited with the escrow amount minus the fee.  All credits accumulate in your account until the credit cutoff date of your choosing arrives (either the middle of the month, the end of the month or both).  They then pay you that total on or before the following 7th day. (Note that you can also choose to not be paid, until your account goes above some amount that you specify). You can choose to have payments sent to you via PayPal, snail mail or Western Union. There is a small postage and handling fee charged for snail mail payments.

Project completed? Funds credited to your account? Start a new search of your next project! You will discover that properly done work breeds return customers that tend to ask for your services again and again.

    Best work from home job
       May 10th, 2006

MONEY Magazine has posted Top 50 Jobs in America. The jobs are rated in cooperation with www.salary.com that makes the list more credible. The complete list is posted below. Salary and job prospects – two key factors that influence the position of the jobs on the list.

You will discover that some jobs on the list fit nicely our idea of home based jobs: see rankings 1, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13, 20 and so on. In fact, half of the list is good for home based jobs. I do not mean that every Software Engineer is or should be a home worker. I mean that the job gist fits the idea of making your job from home office: either you are self-employed or telecommute – does not matter.

So, take your time to browse the list in search of your best work from home job:

Party planner: how to become a birthday planner
       May 8th, 2006

Do you enjoy the parties and have penchant to arrange ones? Then you can become aParty planner party planner without any extra qualifications. There are various sorts of parties that you can choose to be the organizer of. Think of birthday parties, Halloween parties, baby showers, kid parties and corporate parties if you are in for some serious fun. The list is endless.

How can you attract customers and show skills? The best advertisement is your own parties. The guests that you invite can see how you do it and you have a chance to show your creativity and organizational streak.

Your kid’s birthday. To invite guests, you can send them nice invitation cards, there are plenty of them online (search http://www.evite.com/, there are all sorts of invitation cards there). You can send identical cards to everyone or use your imagination and honor the friends and parents of your kid with individual ones.

You can think through the details to make it more fun and a real celebration. Buy balloons and cakes, invite a clown (a good clown or a magician can be a good entertainment for both kids and adults), get a game book and arrange several games to get everybody involved. You can suggest that everyone wears a unique costume to the party, which will surely make it even more fun.

You can make the party brighter and sparkling if you get Indian light or a popcorn machine. You can also arrange the seatings to avoid placing the kids who are likely to harm each other very close.

Probably, it is best to make sure that you do not overdo with games and activities, because kids can get tired of them and be reluctant to participate. Leave some time for them to enjoy each other’s company and play their own games. Try not to dominate and control the party. A professional party planner is an almost invisible presence, but if your efforts are a success you are sure to receive many thank yous from the kids’ parents at the end. Enjoy your party!
