Videos websites
   January 28th, 2007

One way to track current trends of online business is to be a regular visitor to popular website selling places. I remember a year or a bit more back that craziness about MySpace and the number of MySpace related resources on sale. I was not a part of the game, but people say that it was a really hot technique to make quick money online.

This year MySpace related resources are replaced with a wide variety of video websites. Just a few samples of the recently published video websites on sale:

Video Aggregator and Sharing Community Website

VideoSearchScript.com - $1000+ Per Month

iVideoBlast.com - Video aggregator site

Video Sharing Website like Youtube, for sale

$1250+/month Video Humor Site NO maintenance good SE Traffic

So, you should definitely learn how to add video to your website, what players are most widely used, etc – even if you do not intend to run a video website, it is not a bad idea to post videos on your current sites.

Is it time to buy or develop your own video website? Probably it is. A few questions that need to be answered first:

- a CONCEPT of your video website (how are you going to attract traffic to your website competing against youtube.com, revver.com and similar?)

- HOW TO MONETIZE your video website? There are some models in use, but you need a really popular website to apply any of this. And be prepared to incur considerable hosting expenses (I think you need a dedicated server to start with).

- CONTENT. I doubt you have any intention to make all videos for your website yourself.

Summary: When you see all this craziness about video nowadays your first impulse is start a video website too. But when you turn to developing a plan for your website you realize that it is not that easy.

I just keep an eye on what is going on in this sector and now and then brainstorm for the ideas for my video website. Once I get the idea I like I will start a video website, but I would not like to join the game when it is not too late (as it happened with my recent 7search PPC arbitrage tests).

PPC arbitrage: my experience and 7search new rules
   January 28th, 2007

I have intended to properly test and probably make some money with PPC arbitrage with the help of second tier PPC engines (7search.com).

It looks like I should have started it long ago. 7search have modified its policy and put an end to being the most popular second tier PPC engine for arbitrage: one site per account, 1000 keyword limit…

It is difficult to say why they made this step, even Google ‘allows’ this technique, but wants a bigger share of PPC arbitrage market and introduced its ‘landing page quality score’.

The experience that I have got within these few last weeks with PPC arbitrage makes me search a 7search replacement. I will test MSN AdCenter and probably Google AdWords, but I think it is harder with these two.

PPC arbitrage is in fact a no-brainer:

- Select a niche – for this you need a list of categories to research (browse wikipedia.org contents, affiliate program directories or eBay categories to get some ideas).

- Check supply / demand. Do not be discouraged if the bids in one niche much lower than in another – be sure that the traffic for lower paid niches will be cheaper. It is better to focus on the demand volume.

- Develop a keyword list. Add synonyms and misspellings. If you want to do it right way – use wordtracker.

- Make an ad creative. Use AdWords recommendations or just check your competition.

- Design a landing page. Or a few. No need to invent a wheel – find a great selection of arbitrage landing pages here. You need content for your landing pages – use free to reprint article directories.

- Start a PPC campaign.

Summary: My first few days of PPC arbitrage were loss making, then some really good days with a profit. It comes in waves, but still it is profitable.

Two things I did not figured out about 7search PPC arbitrage so far – volume and tracking. I mean it is no problem to start a hundred of PPC arbitrage campaigns, but how to track what campaigns really make you money and what campaigns you should pause. I am sure there are techniques and ways, but I did not research this deep due to the mentioned 7search policy changes.

Need traffic to your website? Get a cheap copywriter
   January 21st, 2007

You want to increase your traffic? I do not doubt that.

OK, as the title says get a cheap, I would say, the cheapest copywriter you can find. Not the best, not a good copywriter, but the cheapest one - a college student, an overseas freelancer, other kind of ideas go here.

I have got this idea about a year back. Recently I have read a story of a webmaster who has increased his AdSense earnings from $10.00 to $800.00 per week – and that reminded me of that idea. It is not new and to tell the truth a boring (but efficient) technique. I have practiced it for some time, but it was not much fun and I dropped it. Now I think that it is worth hiring someone to do this job as it does not attract me, but the technique works.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO DOUBLING (TRIPLING…) ORGANIC TRAFFIC

1. Conduct a proper keyword analysis – that is the core of the technique. You can certainly use this or this keyword research tools to start with. But we talk about a proper keyword research that will provide you with reliable information about number of searches and competitors (demand/ supply), will help you to make a list of misspellings, etc. WordTracker is a nice tool in this case.

2. Hire a local college student or an overseas freelancer. The price – all that matters. You need the cheapest human (not automatic) content generator.

3. Supply him with the list of keywords you have got as a result of your deep keyword research.

landing_page.jpg

4. Instruct that person: you need to write articles focused around each of the keyword phrase. The articles should be 100% unique (copyscape tool will control you), 300-400 words. You should mention the article title in the text, use references to your other articles with proper anchor text, etc…

5. Design a landing page properly optimized (yes, it is a PPC term applicable for this organic optimization technique). The layout to the left is quite good:

6. Publish those articles after making the required changes (on-page optimization) and interlinking them into the website structure.

7. Wait for a few months for any effect (= traffic increase).

Summary: I should mention that this technique is not applicable to all websites (unfortunately). It works fine with good and established websites that are online for a couple of years.

Will it (’artificial content’) damage the image of your website? I do not think so. You can keep running the website the way you do it now adding valuable content, services and tools.
