    How to find direct dropshippers? We have mentioned the advantages and disadvantages of popular dropshipper lists. I am sure that you should try a 7-day FREE trial and probably buy another one time fee dropship directory – it does not cost a fortune.

    But I admit that the most profitable dropship merchants that I have gained success with are those that are not on these lists. I have set these relations with wholesalers directly.

    In this way I have succeeded to limit my competition and build personal relations with merchants who are not contacted by 100’s of dropshippers on a daily basis.

    It was not easy as the most of those merchants have never heard of dropshipping business model when I have approached them first time. Also we have developed the business processes over time that are slightly different from a pure drop ship business (for instance, most of my suppliers are local, so I take care of shipping items myself). But it is still a dropship business as I do not carry and stock and do not store it anywhere.

    How do you find these direct dropship merchants? Just a few ideas that you can add with your own:

    - Google. It is necessary to dig deep and not to be satisfied with those you find on the first 2-3 result pages. It is a good didea to make use of ‘advanced search
    - Yellow Pages listings
    - Better Business Bureau
    - Local online business directories
    - Local printed business directories
    - Local phone business directories

    Once you have made a nice list of merchants that carry product categories you are interested in, make a typical list of questions and contact those distributors (preferably by phone or in person). It makes sense to show the merchants advantages of your offer otherwise they will soon lose interest when they hear some unfamiliar words like drposhipping and vague prospects of sales volume.

    Remember to make price comparison to make sure that you will be competitive online.

    Test the market with displaying and promoting the products you obtain from your exclusive dropship merchants. Search for new or more dropship merchants if you are unhappy with the ones you have spotted. Just keep in mind that it is not an overnight process, but in the end will help you to get your most profitable dropship wholesalers.

    GPS e-commerce store reviewed in our new case study (more similar cases) was sold for $15,000. So it is the kind of dropship business that needs:

    a. Investment. $15 000 is a nice lump amount and it is a risk to buy an internet business for this money.

    b. Experienced online entrepreneur – one needs to know how to run the store backend, how to promote it and be sure how to return the investment and make profit with time.

    It is an established website that is nearly 5 years old – it is one of the reasons to price it for $15,000.

    Another great advantage for the new owner is 100% organic traffic – it means that it is possible to keep the current revenue level with no advertising costs, to run the business on autopilot taking care of customer service only.

    Will I personally buy this dropship business?

    I do not think so. The price is not cheap ($15,000) compared to risks involved. I am not familiar with the products and the market, so it could take some time to explore it. The owner tested affiliate programs on e-commerce website – why should I care about some affiliate sales if my e-commerce business runs smoothly? Those ads just take away your valuable traffic.

    My approach is to start/ get low priced dropship businesses that do not require significant investment from the start. While you grow your cheaply acquired dropship business you learn: you get an idea about the market, competitors, suppliers, website promotion in that specific niche.

    But you probably have a different look at this.

    Dropshipper list advantages

    One of my recent posts covered some disadvantages of the most popular fee based dropshipper lists available on the internet.

    So, it is logical to check the other side: what are their advantages and why they are pushed on this website (besides the fact that I am affiliated with most of these dropshippers’ lists).

    In my opinion these lists are a must for new online entrepreneurs who would like to run some sort of e-commerce outlet based on dropship business model:

    - one gets more than just dropshipper lists: free training incl. videos, support forum, e-books, in-built market research tool.
    - one gets invaluable experience (how to deal with merchants, with customers, where to promote products, WHAT products to sell, how to deal with returns – the list goes on and on)
    - one gets e-commerce store, platform to run your online business
    - one builds reputation and customer database. It is much easier to run business on your own with a regular customer database than to start it off the ground
    - one gets money back guarantee: most dropshipper lists offer money back guarantee within some reasonable time, so you are not likely to waste your money

    If you think that you pay for nothing when you buy some dropshipper list you are wrong. You get much more than just that verified dropshipper list. In fact you get a business solution that makes your work easier.

    Once you feel trained and experienced enough you can start making your baby steps setting direct relations with merchants/ manufacturers (including overseas companies) increasing your profit margins in this way.

    But those who are new to online business – they should, I would put it, MUST buy at least one dropshipper list. It is naïve to believe that once you have a nice online store or competitively priced products you are sure to succeed online – nowadays online business is hardly different from online – lots of competition and low profit margins.
