Money niches to start websites in
I have assigned some time to browsing text-link-ads catalog by category with the sole purpose: to find those niches where:
- the link price is relatively high
- the ratio of the sold links is good (compared to other categories)
I certainly neglected those categories where I run websites as I have a good idea about those industries. But I own just a bunch of websites, so it took me a couple of hours to collect this ‘invaluable’ info.
So, if you want to sell links and to make sure that you will sell most of your link inventory via some link broker then it makes sense to start websites in these niches (if you do not have one yet):
- Poker (all websites listed in the category have sold some adv spots – it does not matter if you have zero PR or 9,000,000 Alexa; in fact a few websites have Alexa – n/a (not available)
- Education
- Business (certain subcategories)
- Real estate
- Health
- Computer
- Web development
I do not feel like discussing if it is good practice to sell the links (you know Google does not like it and promises to penalize those websites that sell links). I consider it as a method to increase your online income. And at the age when the competition online is tough and one has chances next to nothing to be on top of search engines this approach has the right to exist.
In addition to link sales you can employ these websites to run PPC campaigns in those niches – that increases your chances that Google won’t slap the domain if you use AdWords.
And there is a way to run all these websites on a shoestring:
- you need to spend some money on domain names;
- then you can host them as add-on domains along with your websites (my hosting company allows up to 6 add-ons per hosting account);
- install some simple CMS (like WordPress) with nice and free theme;
- outsource unique article writing (preferably with social sites buzz potential) – post 3-4 per month;
- start cheap link building (use your own network, directory, social websites and article submission services)
Conclusion: You are likely to be ready to monetize your websites in 6-8 months. You also increase your chances some niches in these industries in the process of your slow website development. I think that some will just meet your initial target: to make some income with link or review sales, but I am sure that 1-2 websites can grow really big – one need to follow major events in the industry and see what top players are doing.
