Reading books for personal development
I wonder if any online entrepreneurs actively read books. When you have 150-200 blogs in your news aggregator to check daily, and you need to participate in 3-4 webmaster forums, and you have to write posts for 2-3 websites, and think of the new website features, and keep an eye on your top industry competition, etc…
On the other hand, we need books, I personally do. Book is easier to digest when you can read in a more comfortable atmosphere, make notes, highlight ideas and things to test in your life, book selection can not be compared to online resources (and its true applied to any industry).
I wonder where to get the time required to read those books… I think it is a question of time management.
Also important issues are:
- What to read
It depends on your interests and life targets. In my case I try to focus on business books: management, marketing, logistics, etc. and coding basics: html, css, php. Also it is important to read high quality books – those that will be really valuable to you, give you new ideas. Now I am very careful about authors and check book reviews when I select my next book. Life is short, but there are thousands of books on each topic…
- How to read
When you read a leisure magazine it is one thing. When you read an Ajax manual it is a completely different story.
I have my own system that has evolved over the time. And I was pleasantly surprised when I have recently read a great article on this topic and the system described there was 100% similar to mine.
Summary: Ego is always pleased (at least in my case) when you see that your working style or life style coincides with people’s who deserve your respect.
