eBay Closes Protest Auctions, Sellers are Angry
       July 27th, 2006

eBay logoSome sellers are disappointed after eBay removed auctions with titles, that contained the words “Fee Hike” because, according to eBay, they violated listing policies.

Jody, who owns an eBay Store “Beachcombers Bazaar“, had posted a listing for “eBay Stores FEE HIKE spirit bangles.” The auction had received 44 bids and was up to $160 by Sunday evening. But on Monday eBay removed the listing, claiming it was keyword spamming.

Jody said: “The bangles are specifically created for the fee hike and to relieve fee hike frustration, so I don’t know how that is KWS. We all know that is not why the fee hike auctions were removed”.

When she was asked about the removal of the protest auction, Jody said: “Some of the fee hike auctions may have been inappropriate and some may have had violations, but overall eBay did what eBay does best. Shoot first and ask questions later. A low level Trust and Safety employee responded to received reports and rather than look at the auctions and use reason to determine if they should be removed or not, simply ended them. It makes eBay look petty. Censorship is never pretty”.

Jody was not the only person who questioned eBay’s taking down the listings. Another seller commented: “I think, eBay pulled these auctions because they were MAD about it! They are a humorless bunch of money suckers!”

Still another seller wrote: “This is the USA, not a communist country where censoring is a common occurrence”.

    AdWords New Anti-invalid Clicks Service
       July 27th, 2006

adwords logoAdWords provides a feature enabling advertisers to have a much more detailed picture of invalid click activity in their account. The metrics of “invalid clicks” and “invalid clicks rate” are created to show virtually all the invalid clicks affecting an account.

invalidclicks-700067Invalid clicks are filtered in real-time by the systems before advertisers are charged for them. The resulting data will of course differ from one advertiser to the next. Moreover, a much smaller number of invalid clicks may also be credited to the accounts after-the-fact, as the result of a publisher being terminated from the AdSense program for invalid click activity. These is going to appear as account-level credits.

One of the most problematic issues about the topic of click fraud has been estimating how big the problem is. Estimates from third-parties have been both inconsistent and greatly exaggerated due to their methodologies. Advertisers can compare their log data with their AdWords charges to see the real the number of invalid clicks in their own account. And this new tool was created to make estimating invalid click activity much simpler.

When clicks are invalid, you aren’t charged for them, and they don’t affect your other campaign statistics. You may include the invalid clicks and invalid click rate columns in reports. More info on the topic can be found HERE

Make money online with a MMORPG Gold Site
       July 26th, 2006

It is obvious that making money on the Internet is not an easy task - cut throat competition drives the margins lower and lower. But one positive trend on making money online I can see is the growth of miscellaneous ways to make money - you can code, design websites, be in affiliate marketing, sell some product from eBay and your website, promote miscellaneous online services (for example, link sales).

One more method that allows you to earn some cash online is MMORPG Gold Selling site. What is MMORPG?

It is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that enables thousands of players to play in an evolving virtual world at the same time over the Internet.

I am not in the game industry and this method is not familiar to me. But David Turnbull knows much more about this.

Your step by step guide on making money with MMORPG Gold Selling site:

    a. Start a few page website explaining the advantages of buying gold and other equipment. Add contextual ads blended into your website design.

    b. Join affiliate programs of numerous MMORPG websites (for instance, MOGS.com, GamerKing.com, IGE.com). The more the better – it will help you with time to select the working programs and drop the inefficient ones.

    c. Now you need to promote your website – as you have next to nothing chances to get search engine traffic you need some other ways to get people to know about your website. Recommended ways: join TOP (top 50, best 100) sites.

    d. One more promotional technique: join a few active gaming forums and add a link to your website in the signature. From my experience, you should spend some time to explore the subject to look like a knowledgeable person – you are going to post messages on those forums. Another technique – use some wisdom from another forum transferred to a new forum or just keep asking questions (but ‘smart’ asking questions if you want to get some traffic from your link in the signature.

I would recommend you to start browsing the gaming forums: you need some content for your few page website. If you do not want to pay for content – you have to write it yourself. Check also the game websites for FAQ and general descriptions.

Write your content based on your research:

    - describe games, why they are great
    - rewrite their FAQ
    - explain why people need gold and equipment (they need it to save time and enjoy the game not spending much time upgrading their equipment)

Summary: MMORPG’s gain popularity fast. It means that their user database increases and people need products offered on your new website. Do not expect to make a fortune with this technique, but you can ask a few teenagers to help you with this – I primarily mean posting on forums. As a result, your online business gets a new income source, you enjoy a more diversified (and that means a more stable) business.
