Freelance jobs: check list
As a freelancer you were lucky to spot a customer who says he wants you to do the work. And you have found the customer with no help on the part of freelance sites (that fact could be an extra guarantee that your job will be paid).
The next step is no less important than the process of the freelance vacancy search. This step is called negotiations. You need to get as many details as possible to make sure:
- you will cope with it,
- the job is legitimate,
- you will get paid for it once you are through with the work.
Questionnaire (ask your new customer):
1. Describe the job in details for you to get the client’s expectations
2. Deadline
3. Communication: how will you contact the client if you have questions
4. Job acceptance procedure
5. Payment: how much, what method (check, cash, credit card, PayPal, etc) and when. Try to get 10-30% advance payment.
6. Will your expenses be covered?
7. A written agreement: will you sign any kind of?
Once you get the answers you have to ask yourself:
1. Are you satisfied with the client’s answers
2. Will you enjoy this freelance job
3. Do you have enough skills and time to complete it in time and properly
4. Is payment rate acceptable
5. If it is quite low, is there any chance that the client will become your regular and raise the pay in the future
6. Are you confident of the client’s intention to pay you? Can you check his background in some way
You should accept this freelance job only in case you feel comfortable with the answers to the above questions. Do not let your emotions interfere with the decision making process. If the job sounds too good to be true then… It is a good idea to ask someone you trust of their opinion.
